Why Is Education Important For ALL Children?

For a start I’m writing this piece of writing for a “Blog Action Day” where lots of people around the world will post a piece of writing about a severe strike of poverty in our world. This will raise awareness about poverty & also every participant is going to contribute to see how many comments we can all get. Register here if you want to join. I hope you learn much more about this tragedy. And as you might have guessed, I will also answer the question “Why is education important to ALL children?”

This is simple question that can be answered in many different ways. Many children will say “Cool, no school. Those children are so lucky!”  But they aren’t. They don’t have an education, food or water, some don’t even have shelter.

You may think that this is their choice not to go to school, but its not. You’ll probably be thinking why they don’t have all these essential things that they need for life. Well is because they are POOR. Not just that; it’s also because that many people in this world are GREEDY. There is enough food in the world for everyone, but many people have more than enough food because they are GREEDY.

To be exact about 72 million children don’t have an education. How sad to think that many children will have no education. Usually children won’t have an education because they have a disability, their family can’t afford it or they have to work. In some countries they don’t let girls go to school!

Many children in Africa have no food, water & education. Their stomachs swell because of their hunger. They do have shelter, but what use is a shelter when you are in the middle of a war & your house could be bombed.

We sit at home watching a box while eating popcorn. They suffer and often die of starvation or get killed during the war. We would hardly even think about these people who deserve a go at life as much as we do. So for once you should think of how lucky you are.

Right now you’re probably wondering how all this has to do with the original question. Well these children should be given a chance to live life & to achieve this they should be given an education.

This brings me to the answer of the original question “Why is education important for ALL children?” The answer that I thought of first was that is gives the children a better life. Most of their education will help in the future as well as the present. This can be summed up in many different ways that I will now tell you.

Firstly it can often lead them to a more successful future with a great job. This is because they have all these different skills that are required for a job.

Secondly it helps children to socialize & make friends. This is great for the future because they will need support in the future. It also makes them happier with friends and family.

Thirdly it teaches children discipline in which they will need for their future. This can include: manners, respect & good behaviour. With all these things they will be respected as well.

Education also teaches children what dangers lie lurking around the corner. Safety is also part of this and can include lessons about: stranger danger, drug safety & bullying. Without knowledge about safety how will these children survive as teenagers or adults when they aren’t safe?

Finally without an education these children won’t know the basic things that contribute to helping you with life. Think about it, if you couldn’t read anything, do maths or speak the native language of the country you are in, how could you possibly get on with life?

Anyways, I thought that I should just write a piece of writing to help you understand how those poor children feel. It’s set in a war in Africa. I hope you enjoy the writing (In italic). Read on…………….

Shivering from the cold I hide under a table in my lonesome house, I think to myself “why bother to say in this house when I have a good chance that the house & I will get bombed”. So for some miscellaneous reason I decide that my thought is right & I should scram. I’m leaving the house to another part of Africa, even though I probably won’t survive as I hardly have any water, food or shelter (Although I don’t really need shelter). I wish I was at school safe from death (although I could be taken out of school and turned into a slave) I could learn about life. But I can’t because I was working as a person who had to go through piles of stinking rubbish looking for things good enough to sell or good enough to eat. Although I’m not working, I’m escaping from this endless nightmare. I’m never coming back, I’m leaving for better or worse.

Lesson#2 CHAPTERS 4-6

Summary

Trinh helped fish and steer the rickety, old boat. His grandmother found his knife and he was very excited! The water supply was low so the poor, suffering people would have a long, thirsty 2 week trip before they would reach Hong Kong. The passengers then decided on taking turns to do the jobs on board!

Lee ended up doing lookout with Quan for 4 hours! Lee would have loved to bet Quan he would stay awake, winner takes all(Quan’s radio and his pocket knife). Unfortunately Quan declined although he was fortunate when they both fell asleep!Lee woke up just in time to have a glimpse at a cargo boat. It wouldn’t have been much trouble but they were in it’s path! He just managed to turn on the engine and save the boat and it’s people. Their still heading for Hong Kong, but will their journey end early…….

Here are my questions:

  1. Why did Lee want to bet Quan his only possession?
  2. When Tam cried for her dolls, what would you do to calm her down?
  3. What would you do if you were Lee and you saw the cargo boat?

HOPE YOU ENJOYED IT!

Journey Of 1000 Miles

Reading Circles, Writing, Fun Things 1 Comment »

We’ve started reading circles once again and I am reading the book “Journey Of 1000 Miles” by Ian Strachan.

I have decided to write my summaries every week so you can follow the story!

Lesson#1 Chapters 1-4

Summary

Lee was awoken in the dead of the night, as a start to a mysterious journey. His family, consisting of: Kim (his younger sister), his mother, his father, Tam (his older sister) and his grandparents.

As the Nguyen family trekked through the unknown wilderness, Lee figured out that they were escaping Saigon, his lifelong home in Vietnam. The family nearly got caught but luckily it seemed that the family’s journey wasn’t quite over yet.

Finally they arrived at the dock with a boat that would be their only escape from the country that was Lee’s childhood home. While journeying on the boat, the boat was nearly caught but the boat drifted on into the distance…

Here are some questions I wrote about the first few chapters:

  1. What would happen if one member of the family made noise and an officer found them?
  2. If you woke up in the middle of the night, would you have realised what was going on and why?
  3. How would you feel if the boat was leaving and you were still waste deep in water? Why?

Hope you like the book and stay tuned for the rest of the book!

A Record Breaker: By Still Being Alive

Writing, Homework 1 Comment »

In this story Sonja, 36, and Eddie, 46, give birth to a baby girl called Amillia.

This story takes place at Miami Baptist Hospital where Sonja gives birth.

In this story Amillia is born on 24th October 2006, but the story has been reviewed to follow her progress.

This story is about Amillia being born between 16-19 weeks early. It is also about her record breaking birth and her fight for survival.

Sonja went into labour early, at less than 24 weeks, and the baby, Amillia, was delivered after an emergency Caesarean. Babies do not usually don’t survive when born at this age. Amillia had been inside the womb for less than any other baby. At birth Amillia was the size of a ballpoint pen and weighed less than 290 g.

The story happened because Amillia was the youngest baby ever known to survive outside the womb. She was only the size of a ballpoint pen and continues to survive by being given oxygen to help her lungs develop. She weighed less than 290 g when born.

Why?

Sad Situations, Writing No Comments »

Why do the Burmese government not allow people to have food, when the people are dying from starvation?

What are the government using the money (given by other countries) for?

Why won’t the government let the Burmese people have food to let them survive?

Well I’m going to tell you a bit about this case.

If you haven’t heard yet, there was a big cyclone in
Burma and many people where killed. The survivors are dying from starvation and the government aren’t doing anything about it! Many other countries have given food, money and water to Burma, but the Burmese government haven’t given the Burmese people these supplies.

The roads and other transportation tracks have been wrecked, which means that many people are isolated. The Chinese people are parachuting to these isolated people and trying to save some lives.

Many countries are trying to help, but the Burmese government aren’t giving the people these supplies. The Burmese soldiers are selling some of this food, but no-one has money, since everything is destroyed.

Natural Disasters!

Challenges, Natural Disasters, school events, Projects, Writing 3 Comments »

Studying natural disasters is what we have been doing for the past few weeks. I chose the topic “tsunamis” and if you have any questions, feel free to ask them. Here is the question I am investigating about them:

Question: What was the biggest tsunami? And how much damage did it cause?

Answers: On Boxing Day 2004, an undersea earthquake, that was 9.15 on the Richter scale, triggered waves up to 49 feet high. The waves hit coasts of Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka,
India and many other countries. Over 310,000 people were killed and many more injured, from many different countries.

The earthquake was caused by the Indian plate sliding under
Sumatra (part of the Eurasian plate). Water levels in California exceeded 40cm in height, and
New Jersey saw water level fluctuations as great as 34cm. The tsunami wave travelled the globe and was measured in the Pacific and other places, by tide gauges. The tsunami happened exactly 1 year after the 2003 Bam earthquake, and 2 years before the 2006 Hengchun earthquake. This tsunami is known as one of the most deadliest disasters in history.

How the Platypus Got It’s Bill

Writing, Fun Things, Stories 3 Comments »

 ehyjk,mnjgf                                                            xsdhujik8tl0,8

 Hi, I’m Pearl the platypus. Many people wonder how I got my distinctive features; well this is how I got my bill . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

One day I was playing in the river with my friends, Sherley the swan and Daisy the duck. We nearly jumped out of our skins when a dog came. We swam as fast as we could as we tried to escape. Even though the dog bit me I still swam, because if I stopped he would have killed me. Daisy and Sherley came and helped me, so I wouldn’t be killed. Our friendship for each other was great and we acted like we were sisters.

Later on, when we where back in our burrow, my mum told us that we were going to have a triathlon. The winner would get a big surprise and I loved surprises! I know most human triathlons are a combination of running, cycling and swimming, but for animals it is different. Ours is a combination of running, swimming and digging. Sherley, Daisy and I were really excited about the triathlon, as we knew we were quite good at them. I trained so hard for this that when the day finally came; I thought I would have kittens!

Daisy, Sherley and I got off to a good start, but then that dog came back and bit Daisy! We stopped and helped her up, which made us lose the lead (not that we cared). We picked her up and together we finished the race. We had lots of fun and enjoyed ourselves. Suddenly the Koala on the microphone said “First place goes to . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Ollie the Otter”! We clapped and cheered, and when the cheering died down it was time to see the surprise. The surprise was a set of whiskers!?! Then they said that they had one more prize, for the best friendship and teamwork skills. The winner was us!!! We received a bill each and we couldn’t stop smiling!

And that’s how the platypus got its bill.
