Fraser, Fraser are the best!

North and south and east and west!

Fraser (my house) chanted these words as they tried their hearts out on the athletics carnival!

I got 4 ribbons for: 1st 100m sprint heat, 2nd 100m final, 1st long jump & 1st 200m heat. The Fraser captainball team also got 1st+The 200m had no finals so they did the places by time, I came 1st! Fraser’s 4×100m senior girls relay (which I participated in, as 3rd runner)  came 1st! I also made it in discus!

The houses are named after famous athletes, the houses are as follows:

Colour: Yellow        Name: Freeman           Named after: Cathy Freeman(runner)

Colour: Green         Name: Fraser               Named after: Dawn Fraser(swimmer)

Colour: Red             Name: Newcombe       Named after: John Newcombe(tennis player)

Colour: Blue            Name: Bradman           Named after: Don Bradman(cricketer)

I’m in Fraser!

Many of the other AllStars also participated in the athletics carnival!

Hope to see lots of the AllStars in the zone carnival, 1st, 2nd & 3rd make it.

Jollybops, Jollybops, oh jolly Jollybops!

Visitors, school events, Performances, Fun Things 2 Comments »

The Jollybops excited many students when they produced an amazing show that rocked this world. They consisted of Rusty the Robot & the Jolly Professor. They performed a science show based on Aboriginal Science, for example, they showed us how a boomerang works.

I will list the science experiments they performed!

  • An experiment on how friction works. Rusty turned on a wind blower with toilet paper attached, and aimed it at the Jolly Professor.
  • The Jolly Professor had a garbage bin with cling wrap on the top and a hole in the bottom, and it contained steam. When he tapped the cling wrap, the bin let out a ring of smoke! Nadine got to be a volunteer and they put a cup on her head and aimed for the cup, BANG! The smoke ring knocked off the cup!
  • They put dry ice in a container and put the lid on the container, only to see the lid fly off and onto the ceiling. I hope the ceiling wasn’t cracked because we did the experiment quite a few times!
  • There was also one where the Jolly Professor chose 2 volunteers, one of which was Momtahina, and they held a metal stick up to a balloon and as they hit the balloon, not only did the balloon pop but it also caught fire. Which means as it popped instead of an explosion of air, it was an explosion of fire!
  • One time the Jolly Professor held a piece of paper, lit fire to it, and as he let go the fire burnt the paper causing it to disappear!
  • They also explained how boomerangs work and let a few people have a go at throwing and indoor boomerang!

I enjoyed the show thoroughly and hope that they come again soon!

I also found a link to a Jollybops site, have FUN!

Super Softball Stars Strike Again!

District Stuff, school events, Games, Sport, Fun Things 3 Comments »

Bam, and the ball is gone!

The super softballers from Belmore South Public School played their hearts out in an amazing softball game! From the 08 AllStars the participants were Kesaia & I.

It was round 3 of the State Knockout Competition and we went great!

The game was at Epping West and we had a great adventure trying to get there!

Unfortunately we lost 34-nil. They were professionals and their pitcher was as fast as lightning. Their batters were great and so were their fielders.

I’d like to thank my mum for driving us there and also Ms Knoke who organised & drove us there!

 The proud debaters debated hard only to become . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

WINNERS!

We would like to welcome a new debater to the team! That person is Justin!

The debate was against Strathfield South and the topic was: Junk food should be banned from school canteens.

We were the affirmative team which means we said YES junk food should be banned from school canteens. It was a home debate at our school which means we had to provide a timekeeper and a chairperson. Our team consisted of:

We hope to WIN our upcoming debates, wish us luck!

PRC!?!

Challenges, school events, Fun Things No Comments »

PRC, PRC, what could PRC stand for?

These are probably the words going through your head as you read.

Well PRC stands for “Premier’s Reading Challenge”. Children read 15 books that are chosen for the challenge, and 5 of their own choice. It goes from approximately February to September and it is really great and enjoyable.

I’ve finished mine! Each year you finish one you get a certificate. Your 4th certificate is gold! This year is my 4th year which means I will be gettting a gold certificate!

The stage 1 children have the class teacher read 20 books aloud to them. Then all the way till the end of high school you read them alone.

Many children participate and it is a really enjoyable event to participate in.

I’ll update you on our progress in a month.

Booktastic Book Fair

Book Fairs, school events, Fun Things 1 Comment »

What to choose, what to choose?

These words went round many peoples’ heads as they chose a book from our booktastic Book Fair. Many exciting books were on show such as: 101 Cool Magic Tricks, Too Ghoul For School, the Rainbow Magic Series Of Sport Fairies, High School Musical Crunch Time, the Aussie Bites series, the Charlie Small series, the Where’s Wally series and many others.

Stationary was also available. This stationary included: glue sticks, smelly highlighters, diaries, mechanical pencils, pens, rulers, fluffy pens.

I bought: High School Musical Crunch Time, 101 Cool Magic Tricks, 3 Smelly Highlighters and a fluffy pen.

It was a great Book Fair and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. 1 will happen each term so be prepared to read about more booktasic Book Fairs!

Great Debate on Thursday

Debates, regional stuff, school events No Comments »

Good morning chairperson, good morning audience.

This is the way that I started my speech for the debate at Campsie P.S. yesterday. Our debate was topic was: Earth Hour is a waste of time.

We were the negative team and that means we said no, Earth Hour is not a waste of time.

Our 4 arguments were:

  1. It raises awareness
  2. It gives power to individuals
  3. It gives us a taste of future reality
  4. It gives global warming an international focal point

Campsie P.S. were the affirmative team which means they said yes, Earth Hour is a waste of time. These were their arguments:

  1. Not many people participate
  2. It’s only one hour
  3. It has no sponsors
  4. Big companies don’t participate

We WON the debate and are hoping to go well in the future as well. Here is our team: Natalie was the 1st speaker, Naomi(me) was the 2nd speaker, Ramiz was the 3rd speaker and Celia was the team adviser.

After the debate the school provided food for us, this food included: chips, cakes, donuts and poppers.

Ready!

Set!!

Go!!!

Many children participated in the cross country, last friday. The races were in groups, which ever age you were, you got a band of that colour. Here are the different bands and colours: the 8 and 9 year olds got yellow bands, the 10 year olds got blue bands, the 11 year olds got orange bands and the 12 and 13 year olds got purple bands.

Each age group did an amount of laps, each lap consisted of a soccer field and about 300m. Here are the age groups and how many laps: 8, 9 & 10s 2 laps and 11, 12 & 13s 3 laps.

The races were in age groups with girls and boys. The first six places made it to the next level called zone or district. The first 3 places got 20 points for their house, and the next 7 got 10 points for their house.

I came 4th in my race and here are some other AllStars that made it: Haley came 2nd in his 10s race, Hafiz came 1st in his 12 & 13s race, Ramiz came 7th in his 12 & 13s race, Timothy came 5th in his 11s race, Deon came 4th in his 8s & 9s race and Michael came 1st in his 11s race.

I’m in the green house called Fraser after Dawn Fraser(swimmer), the other houses include: red called Newcombe after John Newcombe(tennis player), blue called Bradman after Sir onald Bradman(cricketer) and yellow called Freeman after Cathy Freeman(runner).

P.S. A clue to the riddle is: a door.
