Jollybops, Jollybops, oh jolly Jollybops!
Visitors, school events, Performances, Fun Things 2 Comments »The Jollybops excited many students when they produced an amazing show that rocked this world. They consisted of Rusty the Robot & the Jolly Professor. They performed a science show based on Aboriginal Science, for example, they showed us how a boomerang works.
I will list the science experiments they performed!
- An experiment on how friction works. Rusty turned on a wind blower with toilet paper attached, and aimed it at the Jolly Professor.
- The Jolly Professor had a garbage bin with cling wrap on the top and a hole in the bottom, and it contained steam. When he tapped the cling wrap, the bin let out a ring of smoke! Nadine got to be a volunteer and they put a cup on her head and aimed for the cup, BANG! The smoke ring knocked off the cup!
- They put dry ice in a container and put the lid on the container, only to see the lid fly off and onto the ceiling. I hope the ceiling wasn’t cracked because we did the experiment quite a few times!
- There was also one where the Jolly Professor chose 2 volunteers, one of which was Momtahina, and they held a metal stick up to a balloon and as they hit the balloon, not only did the balloon pop but it also caught fire. Which means as it popped instead of an explosion of air, it was an explosion of fire!
- One time the Jolly Professor held a piece of paper, lit fire to it, and as he let go the fire burnt the paper causing it to disappear!
- They also explained how boomerangs work and let a few people have a go at throwing and indoor boomerang!
I enjoyed the show thoroughly and hope that they come again soon!
I also found a link to a Jollybops site, have FUN!

Create Something EXTRAORDINARY
Projects, Fun Things 4 Comments »Our class has been doing an oceans theme for this term and I chose the main topic to be the RMS Titanic, and the 2 small topics to be pirates and The Kraken (a underwater dragon). Then we had to use technology in a creative way to make our main topic research that we have done, EXTRAORDINARY. I chose to do 2 WeeMees (little avatars) of Naomi(me) and Sir Edward John Smith (the captain of the RMS Titanic). Then I will make a podcast containing an interview which you will now read, enjoy!
Naomi: Hi, Edward John Smith. Apparently you are the captain of the famous RMS Titanic…………….
Edward: That’s right and I’m proud of being captain too!
Naomi: The RMS Titanic was the biggest cruiser in it’s time. It was also a 5 star hotel and it was thought to be unsinkable, right?
Edward: The RMS Titanic was thought to be unsinkable but we all know what tragic event occurred.
Naomi: That was such a disastrous and heartbreaking event. Exactly how many people survived the sinking of the RMS Titanic?
Edward: Well it’s said to be about 1417 out of 4424, which is approximately 32%. Although many died, many did survive as well!
Naomi: WOW!!! I never knew that that many people survived! I hear that there were nearly enough lifeboats to save most of the passengers, why didn’t they use them all?
Edward: To this day there is the logical answer of not using all the lifeboats because Sir Alfred stated that the fewer lifeboats used, the more people would be saved. This would occur because people would have rushed & piled into the boats, filling them to their full capacities. Where as if there were more boats, then the people would wait till there are fewer lifeboats left, and then pile in.
Naomi: That is just amazing! Who were the main crew and what were their names?
Edward: Well there was Dr William McMaster Murdoch who was the 1stofficer! There was also Dr William Francis Norman O’Loughlin who was the surgeon, with his assistant who was Dr John Edward Simpson. The lookout was Mr George Thomas Macdonald Symons, but I’m not sure he was doing his job when the iceberg was ahead!
Naomi: (laughs) How interesting, you were the captain and must have had a hard time when the ship hit the iceberg.
Edward: I had a very hard time and panic broke out like that (clicks fingers). Many people sacrificed their lives for loved ones. By the way, it’s said that a Pomeranian and a Pekingese, two different types of dogs, were smuggled into lifeboats and survived the sinking of the RMS Titanic.
Naomi: Amazing! Well, thanks for your time today; I hope many people know much more about the RMS Titanic.
Edward: Well, thanks for having me, have a nice day!
Naomi: Bye!Naomi
P.S. The holidays are so close so I might not be on my blog so often :-(
