A Record Breaker: By Still Being Alive

Writing, Homework 1 Comment »

In this story Sonja, 36, and Eddie, 46, give birth to a baby girl called Amillia.

This story takes place at Miami Baptist Hospital where Sonja gives birth.

In this story Amillia is born on 24th October 2006, but the story has been reviewed to follow her progress.

This story is about Amillia being born between 16-19 weeks early. It is also about her record breaking birth and her fight for survival.

Sonja went into labour early, at less than 24 weeks, and the baby, Amillia, was delivered after an emergency Caesarean. Babies do not usually don’t survive when born at this age. Amillia had been inside the womb for less than any other baby. At birth Amillia was the size of a ballpoint pen and weighed less than 290 g.

The story happened because Amillia was the youngest baby ever known to survive outside the womb. She was only the size of a ballpoint pen and continues to survive by being given oxygen to help her lungs develop. She weighed less than 290 g when born.

Great Debate on Thursday

Debates, regional stuff, school events No Comments »

Good morning chairperson, good morning audience.

This is the way that I started my speech for the debate at Campsie P.S. yesterday. Our debate was topic was: Earth Hour is a waste of time.

We were the negative team and that means we said no, Earth Hour is not a waste of time.

Our 4 arguments were:

  1. It raises awareness
  2. It gives power to individuals
  3. It gives us a taste of future reality
  4. It gives global warming an international focal point

Campsie P.S. were the affirmative team which means they said yes, Earth Hour is a waste of time. These were their arguments:

  1. Not many people participate
  2. It’s only one hour
  3. It has no sponsors
  4. Big companies don’t participate

We WON the debate and are hoping to go well in the future as well. Here is our team: Natalie was the 1st speaker, Naomi(me) was the 2nd speaker, Ramiz was the 3rd speaker and Celia was the team adviser.

After the debate the school provided food for us, this food included: chips, cakes, donuts and poppers.

Hi everyone!

The riddle has some winners! But first I will show you the riddle and the answer, the riddle was:

Tom and his younger sister were fighting. Their mother was tired of the fighting, and decided to punish them by making them stand on the same piece of newspaper in such a way that they couldn’t touch each other. How did she accomplish this?

The answer is that she slid the newspaper under the door and had the children stand on either side of the door.

I’m glad to say that we have 3 winners! They are:

Nadine and Sokeina. Momtahina told me the answer at school so she wins too!

Congratulations to those people and many other students who tried and were close  :-)

Here is the new riddle:

A blind man has 4 tablets, two are marked “X” and two are marked “Y”. Each day he has to take 1 “X” tablet and 1 “Y” tablet. He drops the tablets and he needs to pick them up as it is time to take them. Without taking 2 of the same type of tablet or asking someone else, how does he accomplish taking one of each tablet? Good Luck! Naomi

Why?

Why do the Burmese government not allow people to have food, when the people are dying from starvation?

What are the government using the money (given by other countries) for?

Why won’t the government let the Burmese people have food to let them survive?

Well I’m going to tell you a bit about this case.

If you haven’t heard yet, there was a big cyclone in
Burma and many people where killed. The survivors are dying from starvation and the government aren’t doing anything about it! Many other countries have given food, money and water to Burma, but the Burmese government haven’t given the Burmese people these supplies.

The roads and other transportation tracks have been wrecked, which means that many people are isolated. The Chinese people are parachuting to these isolated people and trying to save some lives.

Many countries are trying to help, but the Burmese government aren’t giving the people these supplies. The Burmese soldiers are selling some of this food, but no-one has money, since everything is destroyed.

Ready!

Set!!

Go!!!

Many children participated in the cross country, last friday. The races were in groups, which ever age you were, you got a band of that colour. Here are the different bands and colours: the 8 and 9 year olds got yellow bands, the 10 year olds got blue bands, the 11 year olds got orange bands and the 12 and 13 year olds got purple bands.

Each age group did an amount of laps, each lap consisted of a soccer field and about 300m. Here are the age groups and how many laps: 8, 9 & 10s 2 laps and 11, 12 & 13s 3 laps.

The races were in age groups with girls and boys. The first six places made it to the next level called zone or district. The first 3 places got 20 points for their house, and the next 7 got 10 points for their house.

I came 4th in my race and here are some other AllStars that made it: Haley came 2nd in his 10s race, Hafiz came 1st in his 12 & 13s race, Ramiz came 7th in his 12 & 13s race, Timothy came 5th in his 11s race, Deon came 4th in his 8s & 9s race and Michael came 1st in his 11s race.

I’m in the green house called Fraser after Dawn Fraser(swimmer), the other houses include: red called Newcombe after John Newcombe(tennis player), blue called Bradman after Sir onald Bradman(cricketer) and yellow called Freeman after Cathy Freeman(runner).

Thanks to all the people who tried, you were very close!

The riddle was:

A man had 4 daughters. Their names were: one, two and three. What was the 4th daughters name.

The answer is What.  When it says What was the 4th daughters name, there should be a question mark, but instead there is a full stop. That means that was a statement.

 Here is the new riddle:

Tom and his younger sister were fighting. Their mother was tired of the fighting, and decided to punish them by making them stand on the same piece of newspaper in such a way that they couldn’t touch each other.

How did she accomplish this?

Good Luck!
