hairLast Thursday our school had a “Crazy Hat “n” Hair Day”. On “Crazy Hat “n” Hair Day” every child is expected to wear a crazy hat, or crazy hair, or both. People wore: hairspray, homemade hats, put their hair in different styles with gel and wore bunny ears. First 7 classes paraded under the cola, and then 10 people’s names were drawn out for the Easter raffle.

After the Easter raffle 8 more classes paraded. We saw many different hats and hair styles. Then a child from each class was elected as the person with the craziest hat or hair, in that class. It was really fun and exciting. Here are some of the people in our class that won the raffle: Momtahina, Lilly, Michael and Katherine.

How the Platypus Got It’s Bill

 Hi, I’m Pearl the platypus. Many people wonder how I got my distinctive features; well this is how I got my bill . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

One day I was playing in the river with my friends, Sherley the swan and Daisy the duck. We nearly jumped out of our skins when a dog came. We swam as fast as we could as we tried to escape. Even though the dog bit me I still swam, because if I stopped he would have killed me. Daisy and Sherley came and helped me, so I wouldn’t be killed. Our friendship for each other was great and we acted like we were sisters.

Later on, when we where back in our burrow, my mum told us that we were going to have a triathlon. The winner would get a big surprise and I loved surprises! I know most human triathlons are a combination of running, cycling and swimming, but for animals it is different. Ours is a combination of running, swimming and digging. Sherley, Daisy and I were really excited about the triathlon, as we knew we were quite good at them. I trained so hard for this that when the day finally came; I thought I would have kittens!

Daisy, Sherley and I got off to a good start, but then that dog came back and bit Daisy! We stopped and helped her up, which made us lose the lead (not that we cared). We picked her up and together we finished the race. We had lots of fun and enjoyed ourselves. Suddenly the Koala on the microphone said “First place goes to . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Ollie the Otter”! We clapped and cheered, and when the cheering died down it was time to see the surprise. The surprise was a set of whiskers!?! Then they said that they had one more prize, for the best friendship and teamwork skills. The winner was us!!! We received a bill each and we couldn’t stop smiling!

And that’s how the platypus got its bill.

Clean Up Australia Day

World/Country Events, Challenges, school events 2 Comments »

Yesterday our school participated in Clean Up Australia Day. Our school was really clean and tidy after the clean up. How much rubbish was there?
Well really didn’t pick up lots of rubbish. Not because we weren’t bothered to, but because there wasn’t much rubbish.

Altogether we collected 2 kg of rubbish. The whole school collected 48 kg of rubbish.

Here are some questions for you:

Did your school participate in Clean Up Australia Day?

How clean is your school?
